2021 & The Great Awakener
If 2020 was about tearing down the structure, 2021 is about figuring out what the hell kind of structure we want to build. How can we radically shift our lives so that we can build something that supports our deepest desires, our authenticity, our truth?
The answer is to throw everything you think you know out the window. Sure, you can have ideas and dreams, but don’t hold onto the vision so tightly that you miss the bigger picture, don’t let your little human mind try to control the outcome.
Get curious.
Act as if you have no idea what will happen (because the truth is we don’t). Even the most gifted oracle can only see pieces of potentiality and is as immersed in the mystery of life as anyone else. We just don’t know. Get curious about what the world could look like, the kinds of people you could meet, the experiences you could have. Spend every day immersed in curiosity, open to what each day may bring.
Dream big, then dream bigger.
If the sky is the limit, then push that sky out past the borders of Earth, expand the limits in all directions, across this galaxy and onto the next. Why do we stop ourselves from dreaming big? Because we doubt that it could happen — somewhere along the way we stopped believing in magic, stopped trusting in something far greater than ourselves and we traded it for reason. We got jobs and took on responsibilities and experienced enough heartbreak to learn that we are not living in a fairy tale. But with that we also lost our sense of wonder. The awe that occurs when we trust in the power of the unknown. Because once you start trusting enough to, as I love to say often and with conviction, let “Jesus take the wheel,” you learn that there are possibilities beyond what you could have ever imagined. The impossible becomes possible and you start to believe.
Get radically honest.
No more pretending, no more mediocre, room temperature feelings. Get raw, get real with yourself. The kind of raw that scares you a little. And from that place, ask the tough questions. Ask what it will take to achieve those dreams, what parts of you do you need to let go of and what fears must you face? What support system will you need, what degree of strength and courage will it take to move, one step at a time, closer to that vision?
Take a step forward.
Do the thing that’s screaming at you. The thing that you could make every excuse in the world to not do, but it keeps coming back. Just focus on the very next step. And if you don’t know what the next step is, ask for a sign, ask for it to be loud, and ask often. You will know it like a neon light.
2021 is not a year of slow integration. I would not be opposed to a slow, gentle year, but this year does not feel like it. It’s a year of the Great Awakener, Uranus, the primordial god of the sky, who loves to throw lightning bolts of change our way. A shake up in every sense of the word. It’s a year of fast moving, revolutionary change. And the gift in all of this?
Freedom.
To be free of restraints, self doubt, limiting beliefs, misaligned jobs, mediocre relationships, anything and everything that keeps us small. To instead feel free, limitless, expansive, fulfilled. That is the gift of 2021.
If we can get comfortable with change, face our fears and release the doubts, what is on offer has the potential to blow your mind. Again and again, each and every day.
